Le sfide calde di FA Cup: 2a puntata. Yate Town

L'avevamo pronosticata come sfida calda, anche se dal risultato certo, solo perché in campo c'è quel Newport che in National sta facendo sfracelli. Invece si è trasformata in calda per il suo, permettetemi, assurdo risultato: 3-3 finale e Newport costretto ai replay non se lo sarebbe aspettato nessuno. Ma chi sono questi dello Yate Town?

Lo Yate ha cambiato già tre volte il proprio nome da quando è stato fondato, nel lontano 1906. Siamo nel Gloucestershire, centro Inghilterra ad una ventina di chilometri da Bristol dove il borgo di Yale ha avuto il suo sbocciare negli anni '60 acquisendo il titolo di new town. Nella cittadina lo Yate Town rappresenta l'unica squadra ufficiale, anche se esistono alcuni club giovanili e una squadra femminile che disputa dei tornei di carattere provinciale. Attualmente lo Yate gioca nel campionato di Southern Football League Division One South and West, ovvero l'ottavo livello della piramide del calcio inglese. L'anno scorso ha svolto una campionato abbastanza anonimo in questa categoria, guadagnando 50 punti, tenendolo a galla a metà classifica a distanza siderale dalla zona play off (+21) ma anche garantendo una salvezza tranquilla. Anche nelle stagioni precedenti alla scorsa la musica non è stata molto diversa, e la fine del campionato ha sempre regalato posizioni di metà classifica. Quest'anno è partito molto male, e nonostate abbia giocato 3-4 gare in meno rispetto alle altre formazioni è attualmente ultimo in classifica con solo una vittoria su 6 gare.

Come dicevamo in precedenza il Yate Town è stato fondato nel 1906 sotto il nome di Yate Rovers, primo nome cambiato subito dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale in Yate YMCA per rimarcare il suo sviluppo anche nel settore giovanile. Il nome attuale è stato invece confermato nel 1969 quando ha formato, insieme ad altri team, la Gloucestershire County League (livello 10). La sua storia è costellata da serie minori, infatti raggiunge il livello 9 solo nel 1983 qualificandosi per l'Hellenic League, di cui vincerà il titolo per due anni di seguito, nel 1988 e 1989. Al secondo tentativo viene promosso dunque al livello otto, in Southern League, dove rimarrà fino al 2000, quando cade in una nuova retrocessione. Dal 2003 lo Yate difende il proprio posto in Southern con risultati non eclatanti ma sufficienti a non retrocedere.

Alcuni discreti risultati nelle coppe sono arrivati negli ultimi anni, a parte il mitico 4a turno di qualificazione di quest'anno in FA Cup (portando anche il Newport al replay) che ha garantito l'accesso record nella storia del club allo stadio con quasi 1,200 persone, nel 2004-05 lo Yate ha raggiunto il terzo turno (64imi) nel FA Trophy, perdendo al replay contro l'Hayes FC, squadra che attualmente milita in Conference South. Più indietro nel tempo da ricordare i sedicesimi di finale nel FA Vase, nel lontano 1991-92. 

La squadra gioca le sue partite al Lodge Road, che ha una capienza di duemila posti, di cui circa 300 seduti.

Fourth Round Qualifying, risultati gara 1

Sabato di stop per i gironi di Conference in occasione della FA Cup. Vediamo i risultati delle gare e lo schema dei replay.

Nei derby di National solo due pareggi nelle otto gare in programma, soprattutto si è confermata la battaglia tra Forest Green e Dartford, che necessiteranno di gara 2 per decidere il vincitore. Fuori a sorpresa il Grimsby, eliminato in casa 4-2 dal Kidder'ster che in campionato dopo un avvio shock con cinque sconfitte sta riprendendo gioco e morale. Fuori anche il Tamworth che non riesce a sfondare nella trasferta in casa del Barrow (2-0). Vittorie confermate per Wrexham e Luton, entrambe 2-0 su Southport e Cambridge. Nei derby tra Conference vittoria con goleada per il Mansfield, che deve faticare più del previsto contro lo Stalybridge (5-3) mentre per Hyde e Lincoln (contro il temibile Halifax) servirà gara 2. Bella vittoria in trasferta per l'Altrincham, 3-1 in casa del Boston United. Nelle restanti partite buon bottino per le squadre di Confernce, con solo un'eliminazione su dieci gare: cade infatti in casa il Corby Town, 1-2 contro l'Hendon squadra di settimo livello. Vittorie facili invece per Hereford (contro l'interessante United of Manchester, 0-2) e Macclesfield mentre invece ha dell'incredibile il 3-3 che costringe il Newport al replay contro la squadra di ottavo livello come lo Yate (circa milleduecento persone allo stadio...). Per le restanti gare vittoria con sofferenza per il Braintree (3-2) e passeggiata per il Bradford PA contro l'Ossett Albion.

Truro City saved from expulsion from the Football Conference

Truro City have had a late reprieve from being expelled from the Football Conference after two businessmen lodged a £50,000 bond with the league.

Pete Masters and Philip Perryman have paid the bond to cover costs of other clubs going to Truro, who are in administration, if they go bust. "The bond has been lodged," Masters told BBC Radio Cornwall. "They have accepted the bond and hopefully we're all back on track and we can play football again."

The Football Conference has confirmed that the bond has been accepted and the club can continue to play in the league. Saturday's game at Eastleigh is still postponed, but Truro will play at Staines Town on Tuesday night.

The Conference were ready to expel the club after they missed the initial deadline of 12:00 BST, but gave Truro until 17:00 BST to lodge the bond after Masters and Perryman's interest came to light. Masters runs a Truro nightclub while Perryman owns a taxi firm in the city. "We want to get some interest back into the town and get football playing again," Masters said. 

 

"I've spoken to Lee Hodges [Truro City manager]. There are things to do and sort out, but we're very straightforward people and all we're interested in is to keep the club running."

The lawyer for the club's administrators James Moore confirmed that the Conference has accepted the money and the club will not be expelled from Blue Square Bet South.

"The Football Conference are going to allow the club to trade for the entirety of the season," he told BBC Radio Cornwall. The previous bidders pulled out early on Friday morning after initially agreeing to pay the bond by the 12:00 BST deadline. "Two hours after that deadline we did receive a call from Pete saying he wished to help and we discussed it," Moore continued.

"We've been having conversations with the Football Conference and Pete this afternoon.

"The decision has been made to release that £50,000 to the Conference, in accordance with that bond, to allow the club to continue to trade and allow the possibility of a sale to complete." A deal with a prospective new owner for the Blue Square Bet South club had been agreed on Thursday, but the bidder walked away from the deal on Friday morning.

Administrators refused to name who was involved in that bid, but conference general manager Dennis Strudwick told BBC South West Sport on Thursday that Truro-based businessman Anthony Murtagh was involved with the bid. Murtagh, who owns the Truro-based Money Group, is a director of a company which changed its name to Truro City Football Club 2012 Limited on Thursday, according to Companies House.

Truro entered administration after owner Kevin Heaney went bankrupt in August and left the club to fight a debt claim of £700,000.

Under the ownership of Heaney, Truro gained five promotions in six years to go from local league football to two divisions off the Football League and also won the 2007 FA Vase.
